Visit Nizwa, one of the oldest cities in the country and once Omani capital during medieval times.
Enjoy the spectacular landscapes of the Hajar Mountains and the green oases of Fanjah and Birkat al Mauz before reaching the historic town. Once arrived in the second-biggest tourist destination Oman’s, explore the imposing Nizwa Fort built in the mid 17th century and famed for its 40m-tall round tower. It’s worth climbing to the top of the tower to enjoy a superb panoramic view of Nizwa, plain surrounded by a thick palm oasis and Oman’s highest mountains. Move to the famous Nizwa Souq, which is home to locally crafted goods, such as stunning silver jewellery and silver khanjars (a traditional dagger). From here, the tour proceeds to Jabrin Castle, the finest of Oman's fortifications built in the late 17th century. Admire the beautifully painted ceilings of the castle and intricate wood carvings. On the way back to Nizwa, take a photo of Bahla Fort, the oldest and first Omani fort to be built in the Islamic style.
